The West County chapter held a speed friending event for Faith Through Fire. They raised $1,219.50. They have a goal to raise $3000 to help 12 women receive EMDR Therapy.
Their goal is simple. If you want to get better instead of bitter after a breast cancer diagnosis, they are there to help. Their programs and partnerships are specially designed to help you navigate breast cancer easier and improve your quality of life during and after treatment. The Jefferson County chapter supported Mary's House of Hope during a recent event where they collected toiletries and clothing items for men, women, and kids. Their total donated was $4,262 to Mary's House of Hope.
Mary's House of Hopes goal is to transition the women from the emergency shelter (A Safe Place) to independent living, free from violence and fear for one to two years at Mary’s House of Hope. The chapter gathered together at the St. Louis Diaper Bank to network and build Diaper and Flow kits that will be distributed throughout the community to those in need. We donated over $100 in cash and several boxes of items for the kits. We enjoyed meeting LBB members from around the region and some members of the local Junior League.

Laura DeVries, CommCore Marketing Half of all households are now headed by women. The number of households with women at the top increased by 17% since 1990. More women are in leadership positions in the workplace as well. Female representation in U.S. government positions and the number of women in business have sharply increased over the last three decades. While it's great to see women rising to the top, the natural inclination to put the needs of others ahead of themselves has an effect on women's health. Do we as women have it backwards? If you are in a leadership role as head of the household or boss lady at the office, it's important that you put yourself first. Keep reading to learn how to practice self-care so you're at your best. Aha Moment Do you ever find yourself feeling guilty for taking a few minutes for yourself? Because we as women are naturally very compassionate and caring toward others, we often forget to take care of ourselves. But we can't take care of others until we take care of ourselves first. In the book Perfectly IM'perfect, there's a chapter entitled What is Your Aha! Moment? The author wrote, "What started as this Aha! Moment became the beginning of a journey. Think about that for just a moment: it is the journey that leads to amazing things. The journey continues today, but as it began, I was re-evaluating my life and what I thought was important, and then taking it one step further -I became cognizant enough to change my path." As women, we sometimes need that "aha moment" to take a step back and put ourselves first. Self-Care Ideas What are some ways that we can indulge ourselves and recharge our batteries so we're able to take care of our families? Let's look at some. 1. Take Email Off Your Phone If you don't need to have email on your phone for work purposes, take it off your phone. If you can't do that, choose a time to turn off email notifications at the same time each night after leaving work. 2. Learn to Say No When something doesn't feel right, either in a personal relationship or with a client, say no. Don't allow it to keep you up at night. 3. Self Affirmations Write and re-write, "I am worthy, I am valued, and I am loved" five times a day every single day until it's engrained within you! 4. Choose One Self-Care Thing to Do Each Day Do at least one thing you enjoy or that is good for you each day. How about a nice bath or a walk outside? Read a good book, write in a journal, or have an at-home spa night with a face or foot mask. Non-Negotiable Self-Care Is it hard for you to put yourself first? It's time to become a woman rising and create a self-care routine. You will feel better, and it will show in how you approach your role at home and at work. Hey friends! Have you ever paused to consider what's really in that scoop of protein powder you're adding to your morning shake? The world of protein supplements is vast, and not everything on the shelves is as healthy and pure as it claims to be. Today, we're diving deep into the ingredients that are commonly found in many leading protein powders. 1. Corn Syrup Solids: The Hidden Sugars While protein powders boast muscle repair and energy, many contain corn syrup solids - essentially dehydrated corn syrup. This form of added sugar can contribute to obesity and heart disease. Learn more about its effects here. 2. Sodium Caseinate: More Than Just Protein Frequently used for its stabilizing properties, sodium caseinate is a clear indicator of highly processed food. It's derived from casein, a protein found in milk, and is a common additive in many dietary supplements. 3.Dipotassium Phosphate: Not Just a Simple Additive Commonly used for its stabilizing properties, dipotassium phosphate is considered safe in regulated amounts. However, excessive consumption can be troublesome, particularly for kidney function and potassium levels. 4. Mono and Diglycerides: The Emulsifier Story These are emulsifiers made from fatty acids and glycerol, usually derived from animal or vegetable fats/oils. While generally recognized as safe, they may contain trans fatty acids if manufactured from hydrogenated fats/oils. Curious about their safety? Dive deeper here. 5.Silicon Dioxide: Beyond the Caking Agent A common anti-caking agent, silicon dioxide is mostly safe but has raised some concerns, especially in its nanoparticle form. It might trigger gastrointestinal issues like leaky gut syndrome, although these side effects are considered rare. 6. Soy Lecithin: The Soybean Oil Derivative Soy lecithin, derived from soybean oil, has been linked to various health concerns. High consumption of soybean oil is associated with obesity, diabetes, and potentially neurological conditions. For more insights, check out this article. 7.Titanium Dioxide Color: More Than Just Color Approved by the FDA, titanium dioxide is used for color, but research shows it can have organ-specific toxic effects. These include inflammation and immune system alterations. Interested in the details? Read this study here. 8.Sucralose: The Sweet Deception Also known as Splenda, sucralose is known for being sweeter than sugar and could potentially contribute to a sweet tooth preference. Studies have linked it to higher coronary artery disease risk. Dive into the research here. 9. Acesulfame Potassium: Not Just Sweet This is saccharin (aka Sweet N Low), this sweetener might lead to changes in human metabolism.
