Winning Essay: I have had the same two best friends since the fourth grade; we were eight and nine years old when we met. Julia and I met in our third grade class when I moved to her elementary school, and we met Abby the following school year. I remember vividly the moment I met Abby, who moved to our district in fourth grade. Julia and I always sat next to each other on the bus before school, and Julia had informed me that I couldn’t sit next to her that day since a new girl was starting in her class. I wouldn’t allow it, so once Abby got on the bus, the three of us were tightly packed into the same bus seat. Ever since then, we’ve been known as JAB (Julia, Abby, Bailee). I believe that friendship is necessary for success in life. The connections I made with these two people have shaped who I am. They’ve given me second and third families and a lifetime of memories. A meaningful friendship is one of the greatest gifts a person could receive, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience this gift. |
They both know exactly how to calm me down or help me through a difficult situation. I had the unfortunate event of transferring high school in our second year, and was nervous I wouldn’t be around anymore. However, I was also invited to their school events and to come over whenever I have any extra time. Even when I felt left out, I knew our friendship would last a lifetime, because they are always there for my best and worst moments. We have each other through all our life events cheering each other on.
Friendship is a treasure of connections that develop into deep bonds. These bonds, in my case, have lasted for over a decade and are still holding together strong. We blend by our differences in personalities, qualities and interests, but thrive off each other. I’m more adventurous, but can always grab one or both of them to try something new, while one of them can grab me for a simple night in with a good dinner.
Together, we’ve gone on many vacations, including a beach in Georgia, our senior year of high school, and a small trip to Holiday World in Indiana. This summer, we intend to spend as much time together, because we all attend different colleges, so it is troublesome when trying to find time for all of us to see each other.
The ability to acquaint ourselves with different people in our life gives us purpose to become better for yourself and for those loved ones. I depend on them for my success and trust when I need to speak my mind. They both know just about everything about me and what I think about, and without that trust I would have to hold in my feelings.
“Friendship holds significant stature in life as it teaches unforgettable life lessons.” They teach up valuable lessons, trust, and love for someone outside of family. Having close ties with another person may not always bring out the best side in you, but they know your heart is in the right place and accept you for who you are. They will indefinitely be my top supporters, because I can always count on them to be there for me whenever I need. These connections give support in life where someone may not realize they need it and allow this to motivate you to be a better person.
